Veera Voima (b. 1975) is folk singer and teacher. She specializes in the rich finnish rune singing heritage and experimental vocal techniques. Her last project, Myths of Making, with a modern folk dance group Petkele was based on birth myths of Kalevala. Her previous solo, the Descendants of the Bear, concentrated on Finno-Ugrian singing tradition.

 

Besides Voima´s solo project, her singing can also be heard in modern folk music trio Suo, which is releasing it´s first cd fall 2007. Her other bands are all-girl-group Kaipuun Kukkatarha, which performs nostalgic hits from 50´s to 80´s and Cedip tur, a quartet which concentrates on throat singing from Tuva.

 

Veera Voima teaches folk singing, choirs and music theory in the Helsinki area. She has graduated as a folk singer in Sibelius Academy year 2004 and continues her studies there in the music education department.
